If you had 5 wishes what would they be:

Health: One of the most important retirement wishes is simply good health. The old saying “if you don’t have your health you don’t have anything” is substantially correct—and seniors know it. So, what are you doing to promote your health? Exercise is big on most lists. Health foods and supplements are important as well.

Looking Younger: Looking younger isn’t far from point one: health. However, once you lay the foundation of good health, there is often something extra you can do to enhance your appearance.

Security: Checking locks and looking for parking spaces in highly public areas increases with the years. We simply aren’t as quick and strong as we used to be. Common sense drives us to consider this topic. Alarm systems and med-alert necklaces are big sellers among seniors.

Money: It’s hard to stray too far from the topic of money when we are discussing retirement wishes. We wish we had more of it! Who doesn’t? Well, if we find ourselves rebounding from stock market declines that we may also find ourselves taking a second look at education and retirement jobs. Sometimes that can sound discouraging. We sort of feel we have earned our retirement and don’t look fondly at more work. However, more than one senior has found great satisfaction in a creative part time job.

Education: People that don’t understand Baby Boomers are often surprised to see education listed as one of the critical concerns of seniors. But in fact, many seniors are life-long “learners” who have not lost the desire to add to their “data base.” And, there is one other reason Boomers look carefully at education: retirement jobs. New job opportunities demand new job skills and they know it. One of the outstanding institutions of Internet education for seniors is Renegade University.

So, if you had 5 Retirement Wishes, what would they be? To play golf or read, travel the world or take up a new hobby? All good things to do with your extra time – but are you really going to do them 24 hours a day – 7 days a week – 52 weeks a year. Probably not. So let’s start thinking about how we’re really going to fill those days together.

We all know growing older certainly has its advantages and its challenges: like dining out, dating, relationships, traveling, widows and widowers, divorce, marriage and continuing to work.  All topics we’ll explore.
